Classes, Clinics, & Activities

 

Community Garden

Dates: March – October, 2017

Times: 24/7 for working, 6pm on Tuesdays for classes

Location: Nesmith Park

Cost: $75

Cost includes a plot in the CP&R Community Garden for use in the March – October season, as well as gardening classes and group work sessions on Tuesdays at 6pm. Registration Opens February 1 at the Civic Center.

Rock Climbing Classes

Dates: November 4, 11, & 18 and February 3, 10, & 17

Time: 10am on Saturdays

Location: Hurricane Creek Park

Cost: $40

Series of 3 rock climbing classes that includes guided climbing instruction from basic climbs to more difficult climbs at Hurricane Creek Park.

Group Rock Climbing

Dates: Available at any time by reservation at the Cullman Civic Center

Location: Hurricane Creek Park

Cost: $25/person for 1-4 climbers, $20/person for 5-14 climbers, $15/person for 15-25 climbers, $10/person for 25+ climbers

Reservations can be made for any group or organization to have professional guide Corey Lunsford lead rock climbing sessions at Hurricane Creek Park among the park’s various climbing routes. Rates are based on a two-hour time frame. All climbing gear is included. No climbing experience is required!

Hiking Group

Dates: March – June

Time: 9am on 1st Saturday of Each Month

Ages: 16 & up

Cost: Free

Group hikes with a guided staff member will take place at Hurricane Creek Park, Big Tree in Bankhead, Ruffner Mountain, and Mount Cheeha.

Youth Outdoor Adventure

Dates: March 25 – April 29, September 9 – October 7

Time: 9am on Saturdays

Cost: $85

Weekly outdoor activity each Saturday including hiking rock climbing, canoeing, zip lining, and others outdoor adventures.

Extreme Outdoor Adventure

Dates: October 14 – November 11

Time: Saturdays

Cost: $100

Ages: 16 & up

Weekly activities each Saturday including rock climbing, rafting/kayaking, backpacking overnight trip, and mountain biking. No previous experience needed.

 

Group Camping

Dates: Available at any time by reservation at the Cullman Civic Center

Times: Any

Location: Hurricane Creek Park

Cost: Call for rates

Bring your church group, scout troop, or other organizations to camp out at Hurricane Creek Park! Campers without a permit or camping on other nights than the designated time will be asked to leave and charged a fine.

Beginner Kayaking Classes

Dates: September 18 – October 9

Time: 7pm on Mondays

Location: Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center

Cost: $100

Classes will be held at the Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center indoor pool. Will teach techniques for beginner white water kayaking, including bracing, paddling techniques, and working on active river roll. Limit of 7; all boats and gear included. Class will end with a trip down a river TBA.

 

Open Kayaking and Roll Clinics

Dates: January 8 – February 26

Time: 7pm on Mondays

Ages: All Ages

Location: Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center

Cost: $5 per night or $10 to borrow boat and gear

The indoor pool at the Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center will be open for kayakers every Monday to practice rolling and receive instruction from certified kayaking instructors. Boats and gear will be available on a limited basis to use.

 

 

CP&R Trails

CP&R hiking and biking trails are free for all to use year-round from sunrise to sunset daily.

 

Hiking Trails

Hurricane Creek Park

4 miles of hiking trails in a 400 feet deep canyon with waterfalls, overhanging cliffs, the Twilight Tunnel, Heaven’s Staircase, and more classic features. The park offers 67 protected acres of National Wildlife Certified habitats.

 

Hiking & Mountain Biking Trails

Duck River Recreation Area

13.5 miles of opened trail use along the newly formed Duck River Reservoir. This trail offers lots of natural beauty for both hiking and mountain biking.
